I offer traineeships in both the constituency and in my office in Brussels.

Traineeship Position

Constituency Office of Grace O’Sullivan MEP


Duration: 5 months; February – June 2023. These dates can be flexible for those undertaking the internship as part of their studies.

 

Type of contract: Full-time

 

Location: Cork, Ireland. Some travel will be required as part of the role. 

 

Place of work: The trainee will be expected to work from the Cork office of MEP Grace O’Sullivan approximately 60% of the time, with flexibility for occasional remote working to be agreed between the trainee and their line manager. At least one trip to MEP Grace O’Sullivan’s office in Brussels or Strasbourg will be included as part of the traineeship. Travel and subsistence costs incurred during this working time of the traineeship will be covered by the office of the MEP. 

 

Monthly allowance: Approx. €1,400. The trainee will be paid the maximum monthly allowance permitted under European Parliament rules. This amount is set out in Article 10(2) of the Rules concerning Members’ trainees and at the time of publication of this call for applications is €1,407. 

Role

The trainee will work directly with the Local Assistant and Media Advisor of the MEP. The role will focus on political communications and outreach, with a key focus on learning and personal development throughout the duration of the traineeship.

 

Sample Tasks

  • Assist with event organisation and diary scheduling of the MEP in the constituency.

  • Engage with community groups and campaigns across the Ireland South constituency. 

  • Map out stakeholders in the MEP’s constituency with a focus on the MEP’s priority areas.

  • Manage projects when requested, consulting with Team Grace before taking any decisions on content or expenditure. 

  • Monitor the MEP’s media coverage and contribute to the communications strategy. 

  • Assist in drafting of press releases related to the MEP’s work. 

  • Create content and scheduling of the MEP’s various social media channels.

  • Design graphic and video content for MEP presentations and publications. 

  • Assist the Policy Advisors of the MEP in their work, as appropriate. 

  • Liaise with local and national government members in areas of mutual interest. 

  • Create briefing documents for the MEP for events and media appearances. 

  • Attend relevant events and meetings, taking notes and sharing these with MEP and staff in a timely manner.

 

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Fluency in English, knowledge of Irish is an advantage. 

  • Strong writing and computer skills.

  • Availability to occasionally travel abroad.

  • Showing initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a team. 

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills. 

  • General knowledge and interest in politics, and a strong interest in Green politics.

  • Commitment to Green values.
